Feather Fashion Fleury!!

Etsy customers are in full feather fashion this season! Headbands and hair accessories have been flying (hahaha) out of my store and around the globe this fall. It’s been so exciting and rewarding to see my creations head to their new homes and to have people asking for more. Already, I have had some repeat clientele online and I can just feel how we are building a lasting relationship because I love accessories and making unique beautiful items.

Thank-you to Etsy for the opportunity and to my customers for making my feathered dreams come true. I could not be more pleased with my progress at the moment. I am hoping to make 50 sales by the end of November - I think I can do it! Here are some of my most recent additions to my Lotus Lulu shop

Stop the Presses!!!

Mind's Eye Sept 2008

Free advertising you ask? Well yes, I will happily take some! I was contacted on Etsy by the editor of a local paper who had included my picture at Oceanfest in her article about the event. I must say, I do look happy and crafty at my table selling my wares! I haven’t been in the paper since I was in high school musicals more than a decade ago. It’s about time I got some press =) I cannot wait to send my parents a copy (and paste this pic into my visual journal!)

The Motion of Promotion

I was very excited today to receive a message from Etsy user Lorenenzstudio telling me that she has selected me to be in her Etsy treasury! As a new Etsy seller, this is very exciting for me =) And I am so excited to see myself in amongst so many other beautiful handcrafted items. etsy treasury

I have been quite busy filling orders and putting together assignments for my day job as a high school teacher. Fall is a great season for new beginnings in many senses. I will soon be even busier as I begin making faeries again for an upcoming art show at a local gallery. I look forward to sharing some of my creations with you and with Etsy!

Slowing to a happy pace - something about winning a race?

So many creations in the house - it’s often a question of , what to wear! I have so many accessories, and yet a gal like me can just never have enough. Now that school is back in session and I am back in from of my class again craft creation has to take a bit of a back seat to education! This time of year for me is about finding balance. I haven’t been good at it in the past as I have a tendency to throw myself into one thing, activity, idea, creation and be all encompassed by it losing focus on other things. This year I am feeling more in control of myself and am confident that hair accessories, education, exercise and house cleaning can all find a way to coexist and keep me happy.

Orchid pin detailEyes on You Band  Here are closer looks at items headed to Etsy shortly. The orchid hair pin is one that I created for myself and had so many compliments on I have reproduced it for my Etsy store. I think it looks amazing and in the picture I am wearing it paired with my suit - it adds a great touch. Tje peacock eye feather band willbe entitled “I’ve got my eye on you” refering to my cat whom I have to keep an ey eon while I make them because of his feather eating tendencies and (obviously) because the band feature peacock eye feathers!

Lotus Lulu the Penguin Geisha at Oceanfest ‘08

Yesterday, on the ocean front in the beautiful sun I set up my first ever solo merchandising tent (well, by “I” I mean Sean set it up..hahaha ) After some mental debate about the cost of purchasing a tent, then the problem finding one this late in the summer, and creating a display came to a close I was all ready to sell my wares to the live public. I had a lotof positive feedback on my lovely hair accessories. Oceanfest Tent Display I was not expecting so many little girls to be drawn to my creations, but it was very endearing to see them. I enjoyed watching mothers and daughters and fathers and daughters put on head bands and look in the mirror together. I loved seeing allt he smiles that my head bands brought out in people. I was particularly touched by the older women who not only complimented my vision and ability, but took my card so that they might contact me during the holiday season for gift ideas for their grand daughters.

I debuted my new orchid and rose hair pins with great feedback and success. I think that wearing a flower in your hair is a timeless fashion and have spent a lot of time sourcing faux flowers that are convincing and beautiful. So much so, that I had more than one person ask me how I preserved my orchids! The head band hero of the day were my butterfly bands. Bright feminine colour was on the minds of buyers yesterday as many of my butterfly bands found new homes on the heads of lovely ladies of all ages. I look forward to seeing them about town!

A deep heartfelt thank-you from me to all those who came by yesterday, to all those who are reading this now and to all of you visiting my Etsy shop. it gives me great joy to put beautiful things in your hands. Eye on You BandA girl and her cat are an unstoppable team of creation and destruction. I create, he destroys, I get mad, then I feel bad because he’s a cat and well I have the audacity to work with feathers in our home. I had a few peacock feathers arrive and am anxiously awaiting more along with some parrot feathers (naturally shed - no worries) so that I can begin making feather earring and maybe some matching sets. This weekend marks Oceanfest and the market..so I will be bringing my wares out to the public. I hope for good weather as feather are finicky friends =) My latest headbands are meant to be paired with the cocktail dress to be that ‘wow’ factor and I have been very pleased with the results to date! Autumn Migration Headdress I feel this one stands out (though everyone loves peacock feathers best it seems) this head band is truly a headdress. It is a hat without the fuss and it creates such impact. I love the earth tones of these pheasant feathers. I just think they are heavenly. I really appreciate those who have stopped by and commented - it means the world to me t o know people peer in on my creations and take a moment for my words. I put most of my current work on Etsy, but would happily make something custom for any of you! The Hostess BandFuture Pop Princess BandAzul FlutterRose Fiesta!        Oh ya, I am working on flower clips too now - I am excited about the possibility of them. I think a flower in the hair is an amazing accessory . It’s a classic look that just screams elegance and glamour - This first rose and butterfly creation may be a bit much for some, but I think for the right girl this is what she’s been looking for!

Inspiration Station

After going to Cumberland for The Big Time Out festival I am in a flurry of creation again. There is nothing like a music festival with a hippie atmosphere and teenagers to really high light the future of fashion and the trends that are just about to sweep the nation. There were these lovely young ladies in thin leather headbands and short shorts and braids…they were having such fun and their style was so effortless. I want to create accessories for them - they are lotus lulu ladies. With them in mind I’ll be putting some new bits and pieces into the shop in the next week or so.

I also got some amazing accessories myself while there - the stand out piece being a lampwork pendant of a tidal pool

Flights of the fancy

Once and a while an idea is so big, and so good that it cannot be contained in one single specific concept. These feather headbands that I am currently creating are one of those ideas - as there are so many feathers and so many ways to group them that are pleasing to the idea. Feathers are glamorous without being ostentatious because they come from nature there is something very earthy and effortless about wearing them. Feathers are chic, delicate and they are a bird’s way of attracting a mate and also staying warm. yet, when feathers are no longer on birds they must be kept out of the elements and treated like treasures - but their purpose remains unchanged :attraction. Not only am I attracted to wearing them and preparing them , but I know I am attracting attention every time I wander out in one of my head bands. There are a lot more of these bands to come and I hope you enjoy what has been created so far =)

Trying to make your heart flutter with fashion

My office/art space is covered in headband making supplies - feather butterflies are all over the place much to the chagrin of my cats who’d like to eat them. I’ve lost a few lovely feathers over the last weeks to my kitties who cannot resist the urge to munch on them. My ideas are coming faster than I can create and I’m slowly sending items to my Etsy shop front and hoping that others like them as much as I do.
